Beautiful Adriatic Bay and the Village near Split, Croatia

What you look for in a vacation destination changes drastically after you start a family. But that doesn’t mean you have any fewer options than before.  There are some amazing family-friendly destinations that can be found nearly anywhere on the planet. Here are just a few of your top options.

If you’re craving for a bit of that European culture you might as well start with Croatia. It is considered one of the best vacation spots for kids in Europe.

If you have the kind of kids that love to explore, you will want to check out the caves in Croatia. One of the most popular is the Festinsko Kraljevstvo. Here your kids can explore the open spaces, discover the natural sculptures, and enjoy the children’s park. There’s even a bar outside for Mom and Dad to enjoy.

And who doesn’t love a day at the beach? Croatia has sandier, family-friendly beaches to offer than you could ever ask for. But don’t just stop there. If you’re visiting between the months of April and November you will have ideal weather to go sailing or take a ferry ride to one of the beaches for a morning swim in a quiet bay and spend the afternoon exploring the villages and building sand castles.

Costa Rica

Whether you want to relax, or you’re up for a little adventure, Costa Rica is the ideal place to take your family on your next vacation. Give Mom a break and stay at one of the many, beautiful resorts where you won’t have to lift a finger while the kids have the time of their lives.

Spend the morning hiking to a volcano or waterfall, swimming in the hot spring, zip-lining through the jungle, or horseback riding. Then take the afternoon off to relax by the pool or at one of the many beaches. One especially popular beach is Playa Manuel Antonio. The water is warm, clear and great for surfing. The whole family will stay entertained by the many monkeys inhabiting the surrounding areas.

If your family enjoys the monkeys at the beach, they’ll be especially excited to visit one of the many wildlife sanctuaries. There they will see wild birds, sloths, and many more species up close while learning about conservation and caring for the animals.

Something that will stand out to your whole family is the hospitality and general friendly nature of the Thai people, especially when it comes to children. Because of the respectful, family oriented culture, it is known to be an overall safe country to travel in with children.

Railay beach in Krabi Thailand

A super fun way to experience Thai culture is to visit a floating market. The locals paddle through narrow waterways selling various, colorful souvenirs, and authentic food. It’s a special way to soak up the sights, sounds, smells, and flavors of Thailand. Two exceptional floating markets are Khlong Lat Mayom and Amphawa.

No visit to Thailand is complete without an unforgettable experience of visiting an elephant sanctuary. Your child will be able to have an up-close encounter with one of the biggest land animals. They can even have the opportunity to feed and swim with these gentle giants. It will be an experience that they’ll be talking about for the rest of their lives.

The activities available for your family in Australia are too many to count. In Sydney alone will be able to explore parks, beaches, zoos and aquariums. There is even a dinosaur museum, several amusement parks and indoor skydiving.

If you’re looking to get outside of the city, venture to the Australian Outback. Uluru is a good place to start where you can explore the magical red monolith, ride a camel, and go sightseeing in a helicopter.

You can’t visit Australia without spending a day at the Great Barrier Reef. Although it will take some time and planning to make it to these beaches due to the infrequent flights and boat launches, it is well worth the wait. Be sure to take time to do some snorkeling and scuba diving to soak up the captivating underwater life.

As you plan your next family vacation, don’t forget to check out these destinations to give your family the vacation they will never forget.

Ask any experienced traveler, taking a trip with your family is always different than when you go solo. From the obvious differences like price points and destinations to more subtle differences like what to pack, there are always things to consider when you are going on a holiday with your family.
● Get Your Travel Plans In Order First: Obviously, the first thing that you will need to do is finalize all of your travel plans and details. Mainly, this will involve your flight plans and traveling with your family. If you have younger children, you will want to have them sitting next to you, which may mean some extra prices to choose the seats on your flight. Older teenagers are probably fine sitting by themselves. Even outside of the flight, you will need to factor in how many vehicles you’ll need for transportation at your destination, how many bags you’ll need to check and more.
● Plan Your Packing: When traveling with your family you will have to pack a little bit differently. With babies and toddlers, you obviously will need to pack diapers (and you can use a Groupon discount code to get them from Ocado) that you can easily reach during transit. that you can easily reach during transit. You will also want to pack snacks and activities for children who may not be able to sit still during the trip.
● Do Great Activities: Traveling with a larger group will require you to spend more time planning activities that appeal to everyone. With that in mind, you should look to find family friendly activities that all ages can enjoy. Whether it be an amusement park or a day on the beach, every holiday should have something that even the littlest of children can enjoy.
Traveling alone allows you to set your own course and experience your destination as you wish. Traveling with your family is always a different experience. With a little pre-planning you will be able to cut down on the hassle of traveling with multiple people. Isn’t always easy, but in the end it will be worth it to create memories with your family.

I am sure you will agree with me on this one that there is nothing better than the thought of leaving behind the daily grind of your normal life and heading to an exotic city location. In the following post I will discuss why I feel that Madrid is the perfect destination for such a trip and how you could win a weekend break in the city.

The thing that appeals most me about Madrid is the contrasts it offers visitors. There is a mixture of old and new, culture and history, relaxation and action. Madrid really does have something for everyone and if I could, I would enter the competition to try and experience everything that makes Madrid so special and unique.

I would begin my trip with a nice breakfast watching the sun come up over the city and then would take the historic and cultured Paseo de Arte, otherwise known as the Art Walk. As a big fan of Spanish and Italian art, strolling through and browsing the many beautiful art museums and galleries and their contents would always be a top priority for me when visiting the city.

To get the full scope of the contrasts the city offers I would also be sure to visit the Malasana district to fully appreciate how the movida madrilena of the 1980’s changed the image and reputation of Madrid forever.

The Botanical Garden is another attraction in Madrid that I would have to take a trip through as I take a lot of pride in my garden and I am sure I would find inspiration there. I have also heard that as well as many millions of different flowers, plants and herbs, the history surrounding many of the entries is explained as well as the important uses they have in our everyday lives.

Having covered all of the above on my trip, there is one thing that I have always wanted to experience up close and in the flesh; something that Madrid is the not just the Spanish capital city of, but the worldwide capital of flamenco dancing.

To me the perfect end to a perfect day in a perfect city would be watching authentic Spanish dancing oozing with sensuality. If I won the Madrid competition therefore, I would head over to a Tablao and experience this dance, perhaps with some dinner, followed by rich and tasty churros and chocolate dipping sauce.

As mentioned at the outset of the post, our partners would like to offer you the chance of winning a weekend break in this culturally diverse and historically important city. Just watch the video, enter the competition and don’t forget to share it with everyone in your social circle!

Let’s face it, this time of year can be a little depressing. The days are getting shorter and temperatures are dropping. However, there’s one sure fire way to boost your mood and that’s to book a winter holiday. If you’re looking to arrange a vacation with a difference this chilly season, the following guide should give you all the inspiration you need.

Scuba dive in the Caribbean

One option is to jet off to the Caribbean. In this sun-soaked holiday spot, you’re guaranteed great weather. For an active break in this tourist favourite, test your skills scuba diving in the warm oceans. As long as you have suitable insurance in place from a firm like Dive Master, you can make the most of the incredible dive sites that dot these idyllic islands. Whether you’re a novice or a pro, you’ll find suitable sites to explore.

For example, the shores off Grenada are home to the wreck of the cruise ship, the Bianca C. This submerged vessel consistently ranks among the top wreck dive sites in the world. Another tourist favourite is the Underwater Sculpture Park at Moliniere Bay. This attraction features a series of impressive aquatic installations that are based on local history and folklore. One of the artworks depicts 36 children being slowly turned into coral. You can free dive and snorkel around the park too.

Bonaire is also renowned for its top-class scuba spots. The island is surrounded by a marine park that boasts an abundance of underwater life. Yet another magnet for divers in the Caribbean is Grand Cayman. It features over 200 dive sites in total, including Stingray City. For an unforgettable experience, you can also plunge beneath the waves after sunset on a night dive off the coast of this island.

Experience Sami culture in Sweden

If you’d rather pack snowshoes that swimwear when you’re preparing for your winter sojourn, why not head to Sweden for a taste of Sami culture? The Sami are an indigenous people with their own fascinating culture, language and customs. Their lands, which span across parts of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia, are particularly breathtaking during the colder months.

A great place to get to grips with the Sami and their surroundings is Kiruna, Sweden’s most northerly town. The Sami have a history in the area dating back at least six millennia. You can book special culture trips there that include lessons in lassoing, sledging and snowmobiling. You’ll also see how central reindeer are to the Sami’s way of life.

Test your skills ice fishing in Lithuania

Another chilly but thrilling vacation option at this time of year is to go ice fishing in Lithuania. There are plenty of fish to be caught in the waters of this beautiful country. You can test your luck catching the likes of pike, perch and burbot.

A hip flask of vodka is almost mandatory when you’re trying to reel in a slippery creature from the deep in this Baltic location. You’ll need the warmth to keep you going in the sub-zero temperatures. If you land a fish, you’ll see it freeze within 10 seconds of leaving the water. You’ll also get to see your catch prepared and cooked right in front of you.

No winter vacation in Lithuania is complete without a traditional sauna. If you’re feeling brave, you can follow this with a roll in the snow. It’s also possible to arrange night fishing adventures. Just make sure you wrap up extra warm if you plan to brave the elements after sundown.

These are just three of the fabulous winter holiday options on offer. With a little imagination and a web connection, you should be able to find the ideal vacation for you.

If you’ve loved skiing for as long as you can remember, then the life of a ski bum may be for you! It’s not the most glamorous title, but this energetic lifestyle is highly sought-after by the freedom-seeking traveller. There is a considerable amount of planning involved to achieving this lifestyle, but with a little research and effort on your part, you could be living the ski dream.

It’s a good idea to start planning your ski bum lifestyle as soon as possible. Switzerland, the French Alps and Italy are all popular European destinations for ski enthusiasts. However, if your allocated holiday time doesn’t line up the popular winter resorts, you can always consider a trip to the southern hemisphere: Australia, New Zealand and Chile all provide skiing through June to September.

If you’re more inclined to go where the jobs are, Natives is an excellent resource for finding work before you leave. From hotel staff to ski instructors, there are jobs to suit almost any skillset.

It’s also recommended that you take all your necessary ski equipment with you. Prices for clothing and protective gear are generally more expensive at the resorts. Craigdon Mountain Sports sell a variety of snow sports clothing including socks, boots, boards and ski helmets. They may initially be a tad cumbersome to transport, but the savings will make it worthwhile.

Once you’ve settled on a location, you’ll want to sort out your living arrangements as soon as possible. Accommodation in the resort’s town is usually very expensive, so it’s recommended that you share with multiple people. Hostels and apartments may be cramped, but it’s a small price to pay for the amazing experiences you’ll be having on a daily basis.

If you commit to one location for the long-term, you can enjoy the benefits of lower prices. Find a place you like and lock it down early!

The type of job you go for comes down to what sort of ski bum you are. If you want to hit the slopes all day, every day, then a service job in a hotel or chalet mightn’t be your cup of tea. If this is the case, nights spent bartending or waitressing may be a better suited job.

However, mountain based jobs like ski guides and instructors have their benefits too. They will usually come with unlimited access to the slopes, as well as free lift use. If skiing is what you love, this is a fantastic bonus. Word of warning: it’s worth bearing in mind that your free time on the slopes may be limited if you’re already working on them for most of the day!

For further advice on working in a ski resort, Ski Club has got your back.
